Abandoned- 28 Haunting Images

I’m not sure what it is about abandoned things that draw me to them but I’ve always loved to explore any building I’ve seen abandoned that I was able to get inside of without danger, either from law enforcement, unseen owners, or dilapidation.  All of these images have a haunting beauty and should make you stop and think.

I have to wonder about this image in particular and the others as well from Chernobyl.  Y’all remember that right?  Nuclear power plant core explosion? One of only two nuclear energy accidents rated at seven, the maximum severity.  Did the children that played with these dolls grow up to have children of their own?  It was after all, 34 years ago. Did it affect their children’s DNA if they did?  So many questions.

Look at this picture.  Absolutely gorgeous scenery.  Why in the world was it ever abandoned?  What would stop anyone from wanting to be here?

Abandoned Gazebo

Or this place?  Looks to me like it could be The Overlook in the movie The Shining, by Stephen King. Has that whole surrounded by mountains, storm thing going on.

Abandoned Building

This is an abandoned indoor swimming pool in Russia.  HUH?  Look at that stained glass ceiling and the windows and the glass blocks, the entire structure. Just abandoned. Did people in the region decide not to swim anymore?

So awesome! Beautiful scenery, a clear lake, looks like a decent road.  Belly up though I guess.

How awesome is this tree though? I can think of a whole lot of reasons why some place in Cambodia would be deserted.

Cathedral in the middle of it looks like nowhere. Did the people that used to worship there stop believing?  Did all the young ones grow up and leave?

That’s the shell of an old VW bus isn’t it?  Somewhere in Austria waiting on Mike and Frank.

Only one escape attempt out of fourteen ever succeeded leaving Alcatraz behind, but there’s no definitive proof that those that did managed to survive doing so.

I wonder if people on this Ferris wheel would have been able to see over the wall when it was still standing.

Looks like an odd site for a chair to me.  The barbed wire really gives it that special touch. What’s up with this?

Shot down by the D.E.A. hauling heroin out of the country?  If it’s even an airplane.  LOL  I can’t tell.

I understand that Treasure Island is supposed to be undergoing some type of redevelopment, but I spent 3 months there with my sister and brother-in-law in the 60’s when he was stationed there, and wow, what a change. The Navy sold the island to San Francisco for 108 MILLION dollars in 2007.  What kind of redevelopment?  Looks at present to be the perfect for an “Escape From New York” style prison.

I imagine it gets pretty chilly up in the Sierra Nevada mountains come winter time.  It appears whoever lived here got tired of it and moved on.

There wasn’t a location listed with this picture but I’m thinking Mexico. Maybe the Middle East.

When I was younger and could still climb stairs regularly, LMAO, I would have loved to turn an old lighthouse into a home.

This could have been an old farm house soldiers turned into a temporary base during one of the World Wars.
